Afternoon Shark Trip Simons Town

Please note: 6 or more people are required in order for a trip to run. Should we not be able to fill the minimum requirement, we will try to accommodate you by moving you to an alternate trip to suit your itinerary.

Now available all year round! Our trips run from Simon's Town, which is only 40 to 50 minutes from Cape Town.
With numerous shark species in the False Bay area, we do not only dive with White sharks. The species you will encounter is determined by the time of year you join us. With the Great White season, generally falling between February / March and August / September.

Our afternoon shark cage diving trips are made up of groups between 12 and 18 pax, depending on the time of year we go to the island.

Dive time averages around 20 minutes, depending on shark activity. If there is sufficient time and all guests have had an opportunity to dive, a second dive is allowed, but this is at the skippers’ discretion. Our crew is highly trained and safety is of utmost importance.

Transfers available at an additional Cost. Return transfers from designated pick-up points in and around Cape Town. Should you require a transfer from another area, please ask as we are able to arrange this for you too.
Duration: Approx. 4 hours from arrival. The afternoon shark cage diving trip meets at 11h40 for departure around 12h00 and returns at approx.16h00 weather depending.

How many divers in the cage? 4/5 for comfort and shark activity

Do you offer scuba? Yes. All diving equipment is supplied and the hookah method is used.

Does using scuba affect the sharks coming to the boat? No. We would not use any equipment which would reduce the chances of viewing sharks!

Please Note: We have a very high success rate, however as with all wild animals, shark sightings and activity can vary from day to day. Please be aware of this, so you do not arrive with unrealistic expectations.

11h30 Meet at African Shark Eco-Charters payment office to pay for your trip.

We are situated next to the Post Office in Simon’s Town Boardwalk Centre, Wharf Road, Simon’s Town.

Our boat is the Blue Pointer. You will be welcomed aboard by one of our friendly and helpful crew members and a full safety briefing will be given as well as the expected weather forecast for the day. An overview is given about what the trip entails and what is to be expected.

We do an inspection lap of the island giving information on the animal and bird life that is found on Seal Island. We then select the best spot to anchor with regard wind and swell direction.

The cage is lowered into the water to free up the working area on the deck. A bait line is put in the water as well as the "carpet seal" decoy. Every precaution is taken not to injure the shark. We do not feed sharks, nor touch sharks. We are NOT an adrenaline outfit.

Then it’s time to get up close and personal with the sharks.

One of the several on-board guides will interact with the clients during the course of the trip to supply information and answer any questions the guest may have.
You will still have excellent views of the Great White Sharks from the viewing deck, should you chose not to dive.
