Full Day Wine Tour

What if buying postcards and taking the odd vineyard picture is just not enough? Wine Flies Tours believes in the importance of real experiences…we rather share a glass of quality Merlot with a local wine maker in his old private cellar.
Our tours are different, something memorable, immensely fun, but mostly a real South African experience in the heart of the winelands. A must if you want to experience the best of everything the wine lands has to offer, learn about wine making history, indulge in local treats and share stories with our people.
You will get to visit world famous estates. BUT even better...as you will also get to taste the wine lands in a more real way by visiting hidden farms only known to locals. Share stories with the local wine makers, taste wine directly from the barrel, artisanal cheese and chocolate pairing, local treats, cellar tour, vineyard walk, variety of wine styles, Stellenbosch etc. This is what we pride ourselves in.

Wine Flies Wine Tours is a proud member of SATSA, SAYTC and Cape Town Tourism. Our guides are extremely knowledgeable and have valid Professional drivers permits as well as being SATOUR guide registered.

Lastly, before we leave you, we feel its vital that you know this:

Forget the typical fabricated touristy stuff. We received raving reviews about our latest tour, called, What ARE (is) a South African. This experience is as real as it gets..

Do you want to do something really, authentic cultural, something truly South African? This is a day in the life of us.. Take an epic journey, from where we came from to where we are today. Experience the legends, our struggles, our food & drink, our world famous sport and globally infamous political sagas. This is our unique culture, this is us. Finally, there is an experience a visitor will have, to know exactly what it feels and taste how it is to be a South African! Truly an eye opener. You will experience hidden & iconic sights like WE do, Braai (BBQ) with the locals, wine tasting with the wine maker, meeting our people that went through Apartheid, authentic recipes, food & drinks and the truth about our past & present. We lift up the curtains on this one. Sure to create some waves in the tourism industry. Come hungry & thirsty for food, drink & stories. “Epic, controversial & beautiful"

Itinerary

You will be picked up at your respective hotel or lodge in the city center at 8:00AM – 9:00 AM by one of our wine lords.

Our first stop is Villiera wine estate, famous for its award winning Cap Classique wines (Champaign). Our guide takes you into the vineyard, walking you through the history of wine and the process of vine growing, you will then get taken “behind the scenes” for a cellar tour, learning the art of wine making. We then head back for an informative wine tasting experience, with your wine lord taking you through the steps of how to REALY appreciate wine. Other stunning wines will also be sampled along with Biltong (local dried cured meat) pairing.

Our next estate, Mitre's Edge, which borders on the Paarl and Stellenbosch region, is where we also do a cheese and wine pairing, where each cheese is meticulously chosen to pair with the alluring wines.

For our third estate, we do a guided drive through tour of Stellenbosch (2nd oldest town in SA) to a family run farm called Middelvlei. Surrounded by vineyards, here we enjoy a typical South African braai (barbeque) lunch and a taste of their unique wines, followed by a visit to the cellar to taste straight from the barrel.

From Middelvlei we head onto the unique Lovane estate with its basement cellar and exceptional wines. This is quite a favourite amongst our guests and totally of the beaten tourist track. We taste amazing wines as well as locally made artisanal chocolate specifically made for the wine.

The next wine estate is the very unpretentious Annandale, owned by legend Springbok rugby player and 5th generation wine maker, Hempies du Toit. With its world-class wines, one that was the official wine served at the Prince of Monaco’s wedding, and rustic cellar, Annandale is a favourite amongst many. Their rustic tasting room is filled with old photos, equipment and memorabilia.

Throughout the day we give out information on wine, history etc. but in return we post questions to our guests. We therefore also hand out a prize to the most knowledgeable guest of the day!

You will be dropped of by your wine lord, having seen amazing landscapes, tasted plenty wines, and most of all experienced the real culture of SA wine!

Drop off is about 5:30 PM - 6 PM at your respective hotel or lodge in the city center.

Itinerary is subject to the wine estates’ availability on the day.

The price is R 975 PP. Scheduled departures 7 days a week.

Well, that was an experience…. We took the Stellenbosch & Franschhoek wine tour yesterday and I have to say it was one of the best wine tours that I have ever done. Our guide Kobus had to be one of the funniest, educated & informative guides that I have ever had. We went to four wineries, our first stop was in Franschhoek a small boutique vineyard called mitre’s edge they are producing some incredibly high-quality wines especially the reds. This place also happens to be the home of one of the first female winemakers in South Africa. Oh, I forgot to mention that we had a cheese pairing with the wines here. after a walk through the beautiful town of Franschhoek we made our way to the Chamonix winery it also happens to be a game reserve with zebra. After tasting around 8 wines it was time for lunch and wow what a spot we stopped off at rickety bridge winey for a super delicious lunch of pork belly but of course other options available. This winery is set in a beautiful valley & makes for some awesome photo opportunities as we had around 20 mins to explore the vineyard before tasting another 4 wines. Our last stop was a drive along the highway to Stellenbosch where we had gone to the beautiful hoopenburg winery here we got to have something a little different. wineflies developed a chocolate pairing for the wines here with a famous chocolatier from South Africa. It was so interesting how the flavour profiles of the wine changed as we got to try this artisanal chocolate. We had a great time on the trip, it was well thought-out & the amount of wine we could taste was awesome. I would highly recommend this company its a great day out from cape town.

I went on a 2 day wine tour with a friend with Wine Flies in July 2018. Our guide Lord V is a great guy. Really good humor and a lot of patience. They selected some really good places to visit - varying from rural off the beaten track places to really expensive and posh places. Well composed and really interesting!

Fantastic experience involving a knowledgeable, passionate host (Sharif) who was also a great group leader, and an unbelievable range of high quality wines from five very different estates each with a distinct focus and personality. Everyone in the small group of nine enjoyed the day and getting to know one another. Will do it again next time!
